Google Tag Manager (GTM) Integration

Re:amaze supports Google Tag Manager (GTM) integration for automatically publishing Cues directly to your GTM container. To get started, you will need a GTM account with a container set up for the website you want to manage.

Before getting started, make sure the Re:amaze Shoutbox JavaScript is properly installed on your website, either via the Embed Builder or the developer guide. If you use Shopify, this step is completed automatically after installing the Re:amaze app. If you use BigCommerce, see the specific BigCommerce instructions here.

Install GTM scripts

There are two scripts you need to install for GTM on your website or application. You can find these by selecting your container ID. Make sure you or your developer has access to editing your website's HTML or your ecommerce platform's theme templates.

Connect Reamaze to GTM

1. Log into your GTM account and your Re:amaze account.
2. In Re:amaze, navigate to Settings > Apps > Google Tag Manager.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to authenticate.
4. Select Allow when prompted.

After you've authenticated Reamaze for GTM, you'll be taken back to the settings menu to map a specific brand to the desired GTM container. A container is essentially the website you're managing via GTM.

Publish Cues with GTM

Cues are a way to automatically engage customers browsing your website or app. You can use them to invite customers to chat, share coupons or content, or reduce abandonment. To build a Cue via GTM, navigate to Settings > Cues.

Use the Cue builder to configure the Cue you want to show customers.

When you have GTM enabled, Cues can be automatically published rather than manually installed in GTM. For our manual process, see this article. Click on the on-screen instructions to go back to the Cues list for publishing controls.

New Cues will not be published until explicitly instructed. Unpublished Cues will display a Never Published indicator.

When you are ready to push the Cue to your GTM container, select Publish, then select Ok to confirm.

Once published, the Cue will display a Published indicator to confirm the deployment was successful.

If you make changes to an existing Cue, you will need to republish it for the changes to take effect. Modified Cues will be indicated as such.

How Auto-Publishing works

With the Re:amaze GTM integration's auto-publishing feature, you no longer need to manually submit your GTM workspace. All Cues published to the container go live immediately. For manual GTM installations, you will need to submit each workspace change for it to take effect. Re:amaze recommends using the GTM integration with auto-publishing whenever possible.

After a Cue has been auto-published, you can review the version history and the tags created for your Cues directly in your GTM account.

Once your published Cues are live, confirm the deployment by visiting your website.
